Your Hosts ... Nancy & Wayne Osterhaus

Wayne was born in Iowa, just a hop and step to the west of Columbus. He works for the Department of Transportation in Madison and loves working on the farm and making hay. He harvests hay off of about 20 acres at the farm - this is hard work. The hay must be mowed, baled, picked up and stacked into the barns and then loaded onto a trailer and delivered around the area. We have many regular customers whose horses love Wayne’s hay.

In addition to making hay, Wayne loves working with the horses. This summer we will be getting two Clydesdale horses from our very good friends Alan and Shelly Manning. Alan is the farrier for Budweiser and travels all over the United States shoeing those big Budweiser Clydesdales. He is bringing us two Clydes to help with the carriage rides next summer.

Nancy is involved in many activities in Columbus. She served as an alder and Mayor in the city and had lots of excitement during her terms. Johnny Depp was here in Columbus shooting the movie Public Enemies, and Nancy got a kiss from Johnny! She and Wayne got to be on the set watching the whole process of making a film... it was really exciting. And just before her mayoral term was up, Nancy had the thrill of seeing her pet project come to fruition. Early in her term she was contacted by a lady whose aunt was murdered in Columbus in 1980. The murder had gone unsolved and the family was asking for justice. In March 2009 an arrest was made. Very exciting moment. A 29-year-old cold case coming to justice. There are many twists and turns to the murder and the impact it had on the family. The charged murderer will be coming to trial in late 2009 or early 2010 and the family will be able to move on with their lives.

Nancy was born in Canada and she and Wayne met in California. She was attending a school run by Linda Tellington, and Wayne was shoeing horses. They have 3 children, John, Paul and Karen and 7 grandchildren. They have been married for 39 years... how did that happen?

Nancy has a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison and worked as a corporate executive in a large insurance company. Her father and brother live in Vancouver and her sister lives in Australia.
