History of the Bed & Breakfast

History of the Bed & Breakfast This fabulous Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1902 by Leslie and Caroline Wright. Leslie and Caroline moved to Columbus from upstate New York. Leslie was a veterinarian and this was a very sought after occupation in the early 1900’s Midwest America. The City of Columbus encouraged Leslie and Caroline to settle in Columbus, and they helped him purchase the house and establish his business. Pictured above are the Wrights – Leslie, Caroline, daughter Elizabeth and son Allyn.

Caroline was very involved in the community. She belonged to women’s clubs, participated in church activities and entertained extensively in the home. Leslie was interested in fur farming and brought fur-husbandry ideas to the Columbus area. They traveled extensive to New York state by train.

Leslie’s veterinarian office was located in downtown Columbus. History of the Bed & Breakfast He worked primarily with large animals – horses and cows.

The Wrights lived in this home until the mid 1930’s when it was sold to Dr. Cheli who opened a Medical / Dental Clinic here. Dr. Cheli sublet the upstairs to several dentists.

Many current Columbus residents remember coming to this home for physicals and annual check ups. Originally Dr. Cheli made house calls and only a few clients were actually seen in the home.

This photograph was taken in the library area of the living room where today you can play cards, work on a jigsaw puzzle or relax and read a book.
